Suppliers behave differently when they know they are being scored. A supplier that receives no performance feedback will optimize for their own profitability — reducing quality margins, consolidating shipments at your expense, deprioritizing your orders when a larger customer calls. A structured scorecard with published KPIs, traffic light thresholds, and quarterly review cadence changes supplier behavior before a single conversation happens. Suppliers know that red cells in OTD or PPM will be discussed, so they manage to the metric. Over 4-6 quarters, the simple act of consistent measurement drives measurable performance improvement, even without formal supplier development programs.

Quarterly trend analysis that distinguishes a bad quarter from a bad supplier

A single quarter of poor performance could mean the supplier is declining — or it could mean their factory suffered a two-week power outage that has already been resolved. Most scorecards report point-in-time results that treat these two situations identically. This template includes four-quarter trend charts for every KPI, with conditional arrows showing whether performance is improving, stable, or declining. The traffic light formatting applies to current-quarter results, but the trend view tells the real story: a yellow OTD score that has improved for three consecutive quarters is a success story; a green OTD score that has declined for three quarters is an early warning. The supplier comparison dashboard lets you rank all suppliers by overall score, making resource allocation decisions — which suppliers need development, which deserve more business — data-driven rather than relationship-driven.
